About
The School of Computing and Intelligent Systems is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Computing and Engineering. The School is based entirely at the Magee Campus of the University of Ulster, and has a focus on teaching and research in computer and electronic systems. The School was formed in 2001 following the merger on the Magee Campus of the two former Faculties of Informatics and Engineering and the Built Environment. The School has core teaching competencies in the areas of Computer Science, Electronics, Computer Games and Multimedia Computing and offers undergraduate degree programmes in these areas. The School also participates in the suite of modular undergraduate courses on the Campus which builds on relationships with other Faculties; notably Arts and Business and Management. In addition the School offers a suite of integrated postgraduate programmes.
At present the School consists of 30 academic members of staff and over 50 researchers working on a diverse range of research projects. Academic staff includes four Professors, three Readers, four Senior Lecturers and nineteen Lecturers. For technical support, one Senior Computer Officer, two Computer Officers, two Technicians, a Network Assistant and four Administrative/Clerical staff service the needs of the School.
Research is a core activity of the School and is central to its organisational structure. Further information on the research activities of the School is available at http://isrc.ulster.ac.uk/. All the undergraduate programmes are managed by one academic and similarly one academic organises the postgraduate programmes. The School is also proactive in marketing its course provision nationally and in the development of strategic international collaborations.
